With two weeks to go until the inaugural International Futsal Alliance (IFA) Women’s Futsal World Cup, it’s time to start introducing the teams. First up, we take a trip to Scandanavia to meet Sweden.Better known for meatballs, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ikea, there is no doubt the Swedes have been building a promising squad for their first ever visit to an IFA World Cup.
Head coach of Sweden is Luciano Lorca, an esteemed futsal player himself. Lorca was a key part of Sweden’s defence, in their 2015 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. However, he switches back line for dugout and is excited about the challenge ahead.
Lorca said: “Futsal has exploded in Sweden and it is time for the women futsal players to travel and compete against international teams. Spain is a very familiar country to us in Sweden, so it was no question when we got the invite to participate.
“This will be the first time women’s futsal in Sweden goes abroad to compete so It will be a great experience. We have a great team with great individuals, so I am confident we will represent the country well.
“We will hopefully learn a lot from playing against some of the world’s best teams and have a great time watching top futsal, when we’re not in action. We are looking forward to a fantastic competition.”
Lorca’s backroom team includes Benjamin Namini, Cemal Izguden andJosef Kiryo. The Sweden playing squad is as follows:
Jama Jammeh, Daniella Chamoun, Diala Elia, Susan Kiryo, Ida Hedstad, Sibel Izguden, Pernilla Jansson, Amanda Alfredsson, Elin Sköld and Sandra De Brun Kenk.
