Catalonia triumph over China to clinch second spot

December 8, 2017

Catalonia produced a fine displayed to over China 14-4 in the final group game of the IFA U14 Futsal World Cup. Marcos Carrasco once again the main man for Catalonia scoring eight of his team’s goals.

An early flourish saw Catalonia race into a three goal lead inside the first couple of minutes. Carrasco opened the scoring inside seven seconds as Catalonia pounced on a defensive mistake from the China kick off.

Carrassco turned provider for the second goal as he played in Adrian Ortega who sent a powerful shot past the ‘keeper and into the corner of the net. Carrasco was back on the score sheet moments later and slid in to a low cross to score his second of the game.

China settled after the early barrage of goals and were presented with a chance to score from the penalty spot. Alfons Teixidor fouled Jainfu Su inside the arc, Su dusted himself off and dispatched the penalty past Point Diel.

Catalonia, and Carrasco got back into the scoring grove. A corner found it’s way to Carrasco who sent low driven effort into the bottom corner as he completed yet another hattrick.

China were showing that they were still an attacking threat. A long ball found it’s way to Zihao Wu and he put the ball past the ‘keeper to get China’s second goal of the game.

China started to tire towards the end of the half and Catalonia took full advantage. Marc Trafach added a fifth with a fine looping header just before Teixidor would follow up on a shot blocked on the line to score Catalonia’s sixth goal.

Half Time – Catalonia 6-2 China

Catalonia started the second half well and it wasn’t long until Carrasco was back on the scoresheet. Carrasco produced a clever chip to take the ball over his markers head, he then ran into space and towards goal before producing a cool finish.

Ivan Lopez nearly added another as he struck bar, but from the resulting breakaway, Su held off the defender to create a chance for himself and score his second of the game.

Two more goals for Catalonia came courtesy of Carrasco, he provided a superb ball to the back post for Ortega to finish and then got his fifth of the game, Carrasco held off his man to turn and send the ball into the net.

A special moment for China as Su completed his hattrick. Su ran down the wing before sending a thunder bolt of a shot past Diel and his teammates showed their gratitude to their main man on the day.

Not to be outdone, Carrasco then scored two goals which were almost carbon copies of each other. He charged down the wing on both occasions, swaying past a couple of defenders on the way. One finish rolled into the bottom corner and one rattled in off the underside of the cross bar. This completed Carrasco’s double hattrick but there was more to come.

It was a familiar sight seeing Carrasco speed down the wing leaving everyone else in his wake. He cut inside and decided to put the ball between the ‘keeper’s legs this time to get his seventh of the game.

Ortega completed the scoring with a couple of goals to complete his hattrick. He ran right up the middle, skipping over challenges and flailing legs, to dispatch the ball into the top corner of the net. His third goal was a thunderbolt of a free kick that he hit so hard that ball got stuck in the goal.

The result means that Catalonia will finish the group second behind the United States of America. Catalonia will play the Republic of China in tomorrow’s semi-finals and the USA will take on Australia in the other game.

Full Time: Catalonia 14-4 China

Catalonia Man of the Match: Marcos Carrasco – Seven goals. What more needs to be said? A really special talent who is a joy to watch play.

China Man of the Match: Jainfu Su – It’s almost unfair to score a hattrick and still be massively outscored. However, Su took his goals really well and his third, to complete his hattrick, was an absolute peach.

Catalonia Magic Moment: Carrasco’s fourth where he produced a lovely bit of skill to chip the defender and run through goal. Once he was left one on one, you knew there was only one out come

China Magic Moment: Su’s third goal real was a stunning piece of play. He produced a superb run down the wing to create the chance and the shot that he unleashed was simply unstoppable.
